Montgrí, Medes islands and Baix Ter Natural Park

The Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park (PNMMBT) is a protected area located in north-eastern Catalonia, between the Baix Empordà and Alt Empordà regions.

It covers some 8,000 hectares (2,000 of which are marine) across eight municipalities: Torroella de Montgrí, Pals, Ullà, Gualta, Palau-Sator, Bellcaire de l’Empordà, l’Escala and Fontanilles.

The park comprises three major landscape areas:

  • The Montgrí massif, characterised by limestone formations and Mediterranean cliffs.
  • The Medes Islands, an international benchmark for diving and marine conservation.
  • The Baix Ter, featuring wetlands, lagoons, dunes and the mouth of the River Ter.

The combination of these ecosystems within a single protected area creates exceptional biodiversity both on land and underwater.
