Our commitment to the environment

At Unisub, there is a deep concern for the conservation of the marine environment, and the team works every day to reduce its environmental impact. The way diving, teaching and running the dive center are organised reflects a constant commitment to sustainability.

The center holds ISO 14001:2015 certification, an international standard for environmental management systems, and is accredited with the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (CETS). Unisub also has the SICTED quality label (Integral System for Tourism Quality in Destinations) and the PADI Green Star recognition awarded to dive centers that show a strong dedication to marine conservation.

In addition, Unisub has obtained the environmental quality guarantee label from the Generalitat. Since 2023, the center has been a member of Green Fins, an international initiative that provides tools to help dive operators raise awareness and promote better practices among divers. In 2024, Unisub achieved Biosphere certification, which recognises a real and measurable commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In 2025, electricity consumption was reduced by 1% compared to the previous year, and water consumption per customer decreased by 50%. The team continues working in 2026 to maintain responsible use of fuel, energy and water.

Actions for sustainability include:

  • Setting up recycling areas both at the dive center and on the boats.

  • Implementing equipment washing systems that optimise water consumption.

  • Providing freshwater tubs on board to rinse equipment.

  • Offering water fountains and reusable bottles to reduce single-use plastics.

  • Organising regular underwater clean-ups.

  • Raising awareness through eco-briefings, posters and social media communication.

  • Sorting and separating marine debris collected during dives.

  • Training staff in responsible behaviour within the Marine Protected Area.

  • Actively taking part in citizen science projects such as ANERIS and the Climate Tour of Observadores del Mar.

All of this is possible thanks to the commitment of Unisub’s customers, who use the selective waste containers on board and at the center, are careful with water use when rinsing their gear, and understand the importance of making the most of each boat trip.

Future projects include:

  • Fully digitising the booking system and documentation.

  • Carrying out at least five marine clean-ups per year.

  • Developing a responsible sunscreen use policy.

  • Further promoting the Green Pack, the environmentally focused diving course that now is also available with the Advanced course.

At Unisub, loving the sea means protecting it. The team cannot simply stand by and watch its deterioration, which is why action is taken every day to help conserve it.

Anyone who shares this vision is invited to join this purpose. By choosing Unisub, divers choose to dive responsibly and contribute to a healthier and more sustainable blue planet.
