The PADI Surface Marker Buoy (SMB) speciality course takes one full day to complete. There are a total of two dives, one in the Medes Islands and the other on the Montgrí coast. Boats and sea currents are common features at many dive sites. Boaters are often unaware of divers in the area, and currents can drift you further than expected. Therefore, deploying a surface marker buoy (DSMB) before ascending helps alert others to your location and improves your safety when surfacing.

In this practical part, you will learn:
  • How to prepare and store the DSMB and reel
  • How to deploy the DSMB from a stationary position and from mid-water
  • How to swim while towing a DSMB and handling the reel and line
  • How to make a safety stop using the DSMB line

INCLUDED IN THE COURSE:
  • Online and classroom theory training
  • Boat dives
  • Certification processing
  • Full equipment
